Friday 28th August 2020 – Alongide at Grimsby

It’s a little damp out there

Undeterred we took our chances with the Fishing Heritage Centre and luckily secured a time slot. We enjoyed our morning looking at the various exhibits, which visually were exceptionally well done but to be honest didn’t give much information for the over 8yrs of age. The trawler exhibit, which probably would have been the most interesting for us, wasn’t open but it was still a good morning out and ended with a fine brew of tea served with a china tea service.

Ice in the rigging
Warming up in the boiler room
On deck with the catch
A woman’s place is in the galley
How you can eat all this in a mask I don’t know
In the fore cabin
1 and 6 for fish n chips
A pint of bitter when you’re ready love
Be aware of the bloke in the light blue suit

Sainsbury’s was conveniently next door and as it was raining again and gusting crazy strengths we treated ourselves to a taxi back to Talavera. Karl the driver had been a barrow boy at the docks in the 60s and later worked on the wind farms, he gave us a fascinating commentary – next job at the museum?

This has changed since Karl worked there

Back into Cleethorpes this afternoon for a bite to eat then zoom meeting with friends tonight.

Artie the Ship’s Cat spent the day kipping as usual.

Time for scran yet?
