Thursday 6th August 2020 – Rhu (Helensburgh) to Burnt Island (Bute) – 21nm – 4hr

Our track today

What a great start to the day, it was actually dry with even an occasional blue hue in the sky. Visibility was enough to enjoy the magnificent mountains lining our passage from Helensburgh to Burnt Island (Bute). With very little wind we slowly sailed, sometimes forwards, and took in the stunning scenery.

We have sighted blue sky!

Upon arrival at the anchorage at Burnt Island, north Bute, we were both busy on deck when a C-130 buzzed us carrying out ‘Crab Airways’ tactical low flying manoeuvres below the mountain tops and through the valleys; it was an amazing sight. Unfortunately neither of us had hands free to take a picture, so one for the memory banks.

Artie the Ship’s Cat checking the sails are set correctly
Rounds of the deck completed, hiding under the dinghy is a good place to be.

The row and walk ashore was soggy with plenty of flies swarming about. Artie found a pile of scallop shells, which Row wanted to bring home to add to the garden ornaments at home, but due to the potential anti fragrance issue was barred from doing so.

Rowing ashore with Talavera in the background, at anchor.
Artie the Ship’s Cat looking at the other boats arriving
Finding shells for mum – why can’t she take them home?
Who’s taking who for a run ashore?
I’ve been told to pose and look pretty amongst the heather, Grrrr!
We found this information on shore

Now back on board, having been the only boat here when we arrived there are now nine boats anchored, some appear to know each other as there’s plenty of cross chat going on, but all in good spirits.

How come you’ve got lamb cutlets?

This is beautiful. Cheers…. hic!
