Woke to a perfect wind direction, 13W, sailed off the anchor this morning and headed to the island of Bute. Being in the Firth of Clyde we had joked about seeing a submarine, low and behold we saw one on the horizon. It didn’t show up on AIS or radar and totally camouflaged grey against grey water, grey mountains and grey sky it was difficult to photograph, but we had a good view through the binoculars and could see blokes standing on the outer casing.
Artie had a wander around our outer casing and checked on the sails – all set well. We only had the engine turned on while the windlass was in action to anchor, so another brilliant sailing day.
We had a mix of rain and brief glimpses of sunlight on passage to Kames Bay, which is at the southern point of Lock Melfort on the island of Bute. Surrounded by mountains and farmland we were treated to lovely scenery all the way.
Now at anchor it is pouring down with rain again. There is a small marina here, one village store, some large houses that appear to be B&Bs which would appeal to walkers. If the rain would only ease off a walk would appeal to us too. The tourist guide boasts a fine beach but we haven’t spotted this yet. There are however fine sea birds frequently plummenting in fine style into feasts of fine fish.
Tomorrow we head for Gareloch and Helensburgh, we have booked a place in Rhu Marina for a night or two to do some maintenance on the boat before moving through the Crinan Canel and the outer islands.
At least the chilly Scottish weather stops the Fizz from warming up to quick.
I’ll take your word on the Sub, I guess it was actually underwater when you took the picture 🤣🤣
