Monday 17th August 2020 – Ashore at Muirtown

We are a long way north

Woke up to find all the visiting boats had left and we were ‘Billy no mates’ on the pontoon. We did a recce of the sea lock and found out what time it would open on Wednesday for us and on the way back saw a couple of boats traveling down the staircase we had passed through yesterday. As both boats were single handed we took their lines to help them through the locks, that created some good banter between us all. Having continued our chat with the lock keeper the morning had gone and it started to rain again.

The view of the Muirtown locks from the bridge looking back
I thought it had a Japanese look about the last swing bridge before the last lock

With victuals stowed in use by date order, and wet weather gear donned, we headed further into Inverness on foot. During this time Artie beat up a few of his toys and found a USB stick we had mislaid – or he may have purloined it in the first place. We can now listen to audible books instead of singing along to musicals on our forward journey. Row’s devastated!

It’s mine clear off!

We’re just loving Inverness. In about a quarter of mile we counted 9 church spires, let’s hope all congregations are praying for sunshine and westerlies. What a lovely City with heaps of history and beautiful narrow lanes with original architecture around every corner.
We’ll stay here for another night and continue enjoying what Inverness has to offer.

There are loads of them
Even a castle
