Thursday 23rd July 2020 – Arthur’s Porth to Old Grimsby – 4nm

Our track today

Last night was spent trying to ascertain where a crackling sound was coming from. We checked the bilges, inside the engine compartment and peered over the side of the boat but couldn’t find the source. It sounded like we were anchored in an oversized bowl of Rice Crispies with snap, crackle and pop going on all night long. Once away from the anchorage this morning it stopped, so put it down to strange weed activity involving pockets of air or alien fish frolicking.

The wind direction has changed again, now blowing from the SW so we returned to Old Grimsby, between Tresco and St Helens, for better shelter. It rained all morning but eased off by lunchtime so we took a walk around the island. It would have been rude not to drop into the New Inn for a pint of Tribute, which was very pleasant, and while there briefly met Tim Martin, of Wetherspoon fame.

Not a bad pint
Not half’s here

Now back on board we have dvds to pass the time this evening as it isn’t particularly great weather to be out and about in. Next to us is ‘Arjana’ another Hallberg Rassy and we have been exchanging facebook messages between island hops – we are both members of the HROA.

They know have to charge here inflated prices or what?
They even have their own war graves
Making out she is saintly
The Ship’s Cat has had a quite day relaxing onboard

  1. Tim that crackle and pop noise was probably fish eating algae off your hull. We had it a lot in Greece and I often hear it in the UK including last week at Newtown Creek.
