Thursday 16th July 2020 – Porthcressa, St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly – still at anchor

The anchorage at Porth Cressa

Wow, this is such a great anchorage, lots of cross chat between boats and a good atmosphere. It is an easy row ashore with a fine sandy beach for the dinghy to land on. The water is a vibrant turquoise and clear to see through, we haven’t seen any fish yet but they must be here as another seal is popping its head up from time to time. This cove attracts snorkelers, so something must be down here, the water is flippin’ cold so we wont be looking any closer.

This morning we took a walk about the island, it is so beautiful, very quiet and welcoming. The lanes are typically Cornish with quaint cottages and picture post card gardens. It is lovely to see flowers, veg and books for sale with honesty boxes at the end of driveways. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and there is a strong community feel about the island, long may it continue.

Can we have a run ashore yet?
The call him Camouflage?

During tonight’s walk we met two brothers who have sailed across from Penzance on a 12ft sailing boat, not much longer than our dinghy. They were bailing out water and getting their bivvy bags ready for later, they described it as sleeping in a coffin. Rather them than us.

It’s another misty night so we wont be out late. Plenty of dvds on board and a few gins.

Talavera is somewhere out there?

It’s thirsty Thursday and about time to splice the main brace with a nice spiced rum, we’ll leave the Ship’s Cat on anchor watch again, he did alright last night never dragged at all
